Obituraries for week of Sept 12

She was born on Wednesday November 16, 1932 to the late Claude and Hazel Wilder in Jonesville, Virginia. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who focused her life on her family and loved ones. She loved to help as evident by her many years of teaching the three and four year old Sunday school classes and Vacation Bible School at Asbury United Methodist Church. When she was not volunteering her time in church she volunteered for the American Cancer Society, Leukemia Society, and Mothers March of Dimes. Amy was always thinking of others and believed in helping anyone she could. Her vibrant friendly smile could brighten anyone’s day. She was able to strike conversation with just about anybody just by smiling and saying a friendly hello. If that didn’t work she would always have a stick of gum or piece of candy in her purse to offer them, and that surely put a smile on their face. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.He met and married Mary Lou Thrift, of Nahunta, in Waycross in 1959. He graduated from Michigan State University and worked for years as an Instrumentation Engineer for the Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y. He was active in the Instrument Society of America.He is survived by one son, Kenneth B. Drayton, of Nahunta; six grandchildren, Robert Shane Drayton, of Atlanta, Courtney Drayton, of Nahunta, Kailee Drayton Rowell (husband, Caleb), of Nahunta, Justin Drayton, of Nahunta, Amanda Drayton, of Rochester, N.Y., Mary Jayne Drayton, of Rochester, N.Y.; one great-grandson, Lennox Drayton, of Karlsruhe, Germany; one brother, Karl Drayton (wife, Nancy), of Clarkston, Mich.; two sisters, Karen Drayton Trueman (husband, Robert), of Inman, S.C., Suzanne Drayton Wade Mercer (husband, Robert), of Columbus; a daughter-in-law, Lori Drayton, of Rochester, N.Y.; and numerous other relatives.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Jean Drayton, of Rochester, N.Y., his son, Gregory Drayton, of Rochester, N.Y., his parents, Robert P. and Julia Belle Griffin Drayton, of Waycross, his brother, Keith Drayton, of Antioch, Tenn., and by his wife, Mary Lou, in 2012.The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. She was a very caring person always willing to help and give a listening ear to those in need who came across her path in life.
