6-year-old 'officer' gives roses to nursing home residents, tickets for 'being too cute'
Officer" Oliver Davis stopped by the Westchester Village of Lenexa senior center recently to pass out roses while wearing his police uniform. Oliver wants to be an officer when he grows up and he said that he enjoys showing kindness towards people.
"I like making people smile," Oliver told ABC News Monday. "It's one of my favorites."
Oliver's mother, Brandi Davis, said it was part of her son's New Year's resolution to visit more nursing homes. His visit to Westchester Village of Lenexa on April 13 made it the ninth facility Oliver visited in a year, she said.
Oliver made headlines in 2017 after he had 100 police officers from 10 different police stations across two states show up to his house where he thanked them by offering lemonade and various kinds of doughnuts.
"He believes he's an official policeman," Davis of Overland Park, Kansas, told ABC News. "We started talking about the idea of passing around flowers as his duty of a policeman, and he loved it."
The first time Oliver delivered roses to a nursing home in 2017, he received an honorary police b... (ABC News)Sep 21, 2016
Slideshow: Flowers Foods revives Wonder Bread plant
Sept. 21, 2016 - by Laurie Gorton
LENEXA, KAS. — You can smell the Wonder Bread in Lenexa, Kas., again. And it’s been joined by the aromas of Nature’s Own, Sunbeam and Cobblestone Bread Co. breads and buns. After a two-year period of inactivity and an intense four-month renovation by new owner Flowers Foods, Inc., the 137,000-square-foot Wonder Bread bakery in a western suburb of Kansas City is busy once more supplying the central Midwest.
“We are pleased to announce the startup of the bakery, and hiring is underway,” said Paul Frankum, president of Flowers Baking Co. of Lenexa, when news of the opening became official in April 2015. “Over the past few months, we’ve been making significant improvements to the facility, including the installation of state-of-the-art baking equipment.”
Lenexa was one of 20 closed bread and bun production sites and 36 depots acquired by Thomasville, GA.-based Flowers Foods through the 2013 bankruptcy-forced auction of the assets of Hostess Brands (formerly Interstate Bakeries Corp.). The... (Food Business News )Feb 2, 2016

Investments let Hostess brands rise again
Twinkies were dead, killed in a bankruptcy that shut down the once-thriving Hostess bakeries of a Kansas City-based company.
Today, at bakeries in Lenexa, Kan., and Emporia, Kan., and other spots around the country, the brands are reborn. Phalanxes of loaves, buns and snack cakes are baked, packaged and shipped, bound for consumers who never lost appetite for them.
At the newly reopened Flowers Baking Co. plant in Lenexa, 9,000 loaves an hour, two shifts a day, five days a week slide into an oven the size of a tennis court. The Wonder and Home Pride breads, along with bun production, line retail shelves the next day.
Ninety-eight miles southwest of the Lenexa bakery, staggering daily totals - 1.8 million mini-doughnuts, 1.4 million chocolate cupcakes, 1.5 million Twinkies - shoot through production lines 24 hours a day, six days a week in the new Hostess Brands LLC snack cake plant in Emporia. Within minutes, they're out of the oven and snuggling into plastic sleeves, bags and boxes.
Even as the new Hostess company makes a foray into producing a healthier whole grain muffin elsewhere in its system, the sugary old favorites still rule. In fact, the Emporia plant is working on a new brownie line for another sweet option.
The paths to resurrection of the old Hostess Brands brands may be as convoluted as the conveyors winding through the big bakeries. But the results are not hard to follow. Some of America's most recognizable brands are back in business after labor turmoil, debt burdens and a second failed attempt at bankruptcy restructuring led to shuttering 36 bakeries and firing 18,500 workers in November 2012.
The renaissance was gradual and partial. It first required asset sales of Hostess Brands, a successor to Kansas City-based Interstate Bakeries Corp.
Comeback in 2013
Interstate had slid downhill from a mid-1990s peak when it was the largest wholesale baker of bread and snack cakes in the United States. In fact, national brand recognition prompted the company to rename itself in 2009 as Hostess Brands. But by 2012, the company had failed, union contracts were severed, and its bra...
