John (Jack) C. Kuhns

Kay’s death, Jack married a long-time friend they had met traveling, Marjorie (Marge) Milligan Harden, the widow of Dr. Murray Harden of West Lafayette, Indiana. Together, Jack and Marge traveled to all 50 United States, all Canadian Provides, all of the continents and the North Pole. At age 59, Jack took up downhill skiing and the couple became actively involved in the 70+ Ski Club and NASTAR Amateur Race League. Jack continued to downhill ski through age 94 and cherished family ski trips with four generations of skiers. Jack was strongly committed to the arts and to the enhancement of art and education in Kokomo. He served on the board of the Kokomo Arts Association from 1969 until his death and was instrumental in the acquisition of the Downtown Kokomo Artworks Gallery building named in honor of his first wife Kay C. Kuhns. It was his expressed desire that upon his passing, a scholarship fund would be established in the name of Kay C. Kuhns for Kokomo High School students interested in pursuing a degree in journalism. Known for his wit, wisdom and love of gin and whiskey, Jack’s advice for longevity was simple and could be quoted by all who knew him well: Drink only the best liquor, marry a wonderful woman and choose your parents very carefully. Jack was preceded in death by both wives, daughters and one sister. He is survived by one sister, Joan Kuhns Henderson (Tallahassee, FL,) three step-children Judy Harden Poor (West Lafayette, IN), Timothy Harden (Indianapolis, IN) and Thomas Harden (Yarmouth, ME), seven step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery following the visitation with Father Glenn Kohrman officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kokomo Art Association, 210 North Main Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901. A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday following the services at Artworks Gallery, 210 North Main Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901. (Kokomo Perspective)
