Perfection still within grasp following Spartan swim win

On Wednesday night, in a dual at rival East Central, the Connersville High School boys swim team showed that personnel depth can be just as important a word.Through 12 events on the evening, Connersville reached the wall first only five times. But it was the runner-up and third-place finishes that buoyed the Spartans, and helped lift them to a 97-89 victory over the Trojans. “We really wanted another shot at these guys. Vernon would have an advantage on us, particularly in depth,” Connersville head coach Darrell Drew said afterward. “So we were aware that they would be a tall hurdle to overcome.”While Mt. Vernon might have hit its target in the girls tilt, on the boys side, it was Connersville looking once more as if it was bullet-proof, the boys carrying their side of the night with a 107-78 victory. The CHS girls had an opportunity to make it a clean sweep over their guests.Leading by two points midway through the meet, Connersville lost some ground in the later events, but still trailed by only four (88-84) heading into...
