May 1, 2020Where to see bluebonnets and wildflowers in Dallas-Fort Worth while social distancing - culturemap.com
Zion Cemetery.
For those making it a day-long adventure, farther out of the Metroplex, there are patches at the entrance to Mallard Park in Lavon (about 30 miles north of McKinney) and fields of wildflowers off Highway 75 in Denison and Sherman, spotters say.
Practical considerationsBefore you head out on a country drive, remember we are living in a world without pit stops at roadside Whataburgers. Plan snacks, drinks, and potential restroom situations accordingly.
Also, remember the "groups" rule. If you approach a pretty patch and another family is taking photos, ride on by.
Some regular guidelines to keep in mind, too: Don't trespass on private property. Don't pick the flowers. Step gently so you don't squish them, and don't leave anything behind. Also, beware of snakes, fire ants, and other critters that might be hiding among the flowers.
Wildflowers from the comfort of your couchCan’t get outside? Enjoy a virtual tour of what’s blooming around the state on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Flickr page, populated with wildflower sightings from state parks and wildlife management areas, or its Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts, where anyone can share photos of the great outdoors.
Proska says the INaturalist app will allow you to see what’s in bloom in different regions around the Metroplex.
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin also posts sightings on a curated Instagram account, @texaswildflowerwatch (#txwildflowers2020) and has a narrated virtual tour of the Center.

Hopelink assisted.
In the city release, Hopelink CEO Lauren Thomas said Marchione was instrumental in developing Hopelink’s Avondale Park housing facility. It bears her name today, leaving a legacy that “holds local families in her arms,” Thomas said.
“She was so much more than a great leader. Doreen was a mentor, and a fierce advocate for those in need; a caring, passionate woman who wore her heart on her sleeve and lived her commitment to our community every single day,” Thomas said in the release. “She will be deeply missed, and her passion will be carried forward through the lives of her family, friends, and Hopelink family.”
Marchione also served on multiple regional boards and committees, including 15 years on the Seattle University College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Council, State Transportation Improvement Board, Commissioner of King County Housing Authority, president of the Washington State Association of Community Agencies, and board member of the Kirkland Performance Center.
“Doreen was a true force of nature in our region,” said Joan McBride, former Washington state representative for the 48th Legislative District, in the release. “Befriending and mentoring countless women on the Eastside, Doreen set the example of collegiality and dignity that exemplifies the best in an elected official. May her legacy of commitment to the community, zeal for justice, and dedication to the precepts of good government live on.”
Marchione is mother to current Redmond Mayor John Marchione.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland. Friends are invited to view photos and share memories in the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doreen’s name to Hopelink or the Kirkland Performance Center.
Doreen Marchione is survived by her four sons, John, Paul (Grainne), Michael (Christina) and David, and four grandchildren, Andrew, Maria, Sofia and Daniel. She is also survived by her significant other, Robert Caldwell and her brother, John Foster.

April 27 on both charges and received a life sentence, which he is serving at the Avon Park Correctional Institution.Coral Springs police detectives who investigated the case were captured in an audiotape made in April 2013 saying they did not believe Enamorado-Dubon, who was 16 at the time of the murder, was involved in the crime, according to Miami television WPLG-10.The detectives say on the tape that Enamorado-Dubon insisted to them the murder was a hit ordered by Hagen Christ, Cuevas' business partner, and carried out by MS-13 gang members, according to WPLG's report. After Cuevas disappeared, investigators said Christ withdrew $58,500 from his partner's personal bank account. Christ also allegedly removed Cuevas' cars from a company insurance policy during a time when Cuevas was only listed as missing. Goedeke, Cuevas' mother, said she was forced to pay the insurance policies out of her own pocket.Suspicion was also raised by Christ after he told police that Cuevas never arrived at their Pompano Beach business that Nov. 3, even though authorities had cellphone records putting Cuevas in that area.Christ has not been charged in the case, although records show that he's the subject of an active warrant for failing to appear in court following a February 2010 arrest in Broward County for possession of oxycodone, a felony.RELATED Loxahatchee man accused in daughter’s starvation death allowed to keep lawyerCuevas' family believes that Christ, a Peruvian national, may have fled the country. Attempts to find current contact information for Christ were unsuccessful. Court records show authorities informed U.S. Homeland Security in November 2012 about Christ, presumably regarding his fugitive status.Coral Springs police say the case remains open."In my opinion, some justice has been served, but not completely, and it won't be until we have everyone involved," Charlie Cuevas said.Charlie Cuevas said among the last memories of his father is of a Christmas visit after his parents divorced. Francisco Cuevas brought presents for Charlie and Samantha, but also carried gifts for the siblings' half-sister, who was no relation to Francisco."It was like, 'Wow,' " Charlie Cuevas said. "Most people wouldn't do that."Goedeke maintains a shrine to her son inside her Naples home, including the butts from two of the last cigarettes he smoked. She also oversees a website — www.justiceforfranky.com — devoted to Cuevas. The site's home page ends with: "We will never be the same without you! We will not have peace until those who took you are brought to justice!""I have faith God will keep me on this earth long enough to see that happen," she said.
