Feb 3, 2017BC Player of the Week: Knox City's Flowers wins honor
Myca Flowers(Photo: Courtesy)
With her team opening its District 8-1A schedule against Chillicothe and Harrold last week, Knox City's Myca Flowers picked the right time for a pair of top-flight performances.
Flowers, who earns our Big Country Player of the Week award for the week ending Jan. 14, took the accolade after charting a combined 51 points, 24 rebounds and a dozen steals.
Chillicothe was the first victim, falling 56-10 to Knox City behind a 21-point, eight-rebound, five-steal effort from Flowers. Harrold fell three nights later when the 5-foot-10 junior lit the Lady Hornets up for 30 points, 16 boards and seven steals.
"Her effort was tremendous," coach Dylan Ballard said. "She's one of those players who isn't very big width-wise, but she's tall and has long arms.
"She can get in there and get to the basket. She's not afraid to get hit and she's one of the most athletic girls we have. Our players trust her and believe in her."
Knox City enters this week at 11-9 overall.
BIG COUNTRY TOP 10

Aug 18, 2015Kirtland florist retiring after 35 years
A former secretary at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, White took over ownership of Countryside Floral, 10535 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland, for her brother in 1980. On Aug. 17, she’ll hand over ownership to Denise Pretnar Gorski, a former customer.
White, 76, has collected 35 years of memories in the floral business. She said she’ll miss the people she encountered the most. Working in Kirtland’s small community made it easy to develop relationships with loyal customers she’ll always remember.
“My good memories are just watching people grow up,” White said. “The young kids come in with their parents and some of them, I did their wedding. Then they bring their kids in and as they got older, I was doing the flowers for their homecoming and prom. I’ve been here long enough that I’ve married some of them. It’s like a circle.”

White is retiring from business to enjoy free time and continue her recovery from lung cancer. She underwent surgeries in January and April.
Business has kept White busy over the years, but her staff of four has kept up, despite all the annual Mother’s Day, wedding and prom orders... (News-Herald.com)
