Women of the Year

She is married to Rudolph “Skip,” and has two children and five grandchildren. Elizabeth (Betsy) Devier, St. Ann Catholic Church, Channahon Devier has belonged to St. Ann’s for 13 years and is the current co-publicity chairperson for the Council of Catholic Women and a member of the Elizabeth Ministry. For the church, Devier organizes the making of bookmarks for prisoners, helps with Cub Scouts and puts together volunteer projects for the church’s religious education classes. CCW activities include creating bookmarks for the church’s First Communion classes; belonging to a sewing group that has donated sundresses, blankets, baptismal bibs, hats, aprons and other items to charitable organizations; baking for and helping at the Lenten fish fry dinners; and assisting with Mother’s Day flower sales, bunco parties and funeral luncheons. Linda (Sovich) Dyke, Church of St. Anthony, Joliet Sovich is an employee of the Church of St. Anthony is Joliet. She serves as secretary and housekeeper. She helped redesign the memorial/prayer garden and maintains it. She coordinates the monthly pancake breakfast and dinners. She prepares the church for Christmas and Easter. A former longtime parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Church in Crest Hill, Sovich served as the Council of Catholic Women secretary until 2016. She cooked at the pancake breakfast, chaired the parish picnic and shopped for the church food drive. Sovich is married to Scott. She is the mother of Joel (Corsola) Sovich and Katie (Greg) Cash. Sharon Erdman, St. Rose of Lima Church, Wilmington Erdman moved to Wilmington 20 years ago, where she and her late husband Tom raised their five children. Her volunteer work at St. Rose includes cooking and serving for the Council of Catholic Women’s funeral dinners. She helps with the annual CCW card party in May and the parish’s annual turkey dinner in November. For six years, Erdman has served at St. Rose’s Kuzma Cottage, which provides food for low-income individuals. Erdman has six grandchildren. Nancy Futterer, Church of St. Anthony, Joliet Futterer has strong family roots at St. Anthony’s Parish and is a longtime Council of Catholic Women member. She has served as CCW president for two years, vice president for two years, and presently as adviser. She is a “collection counter.” Futterer assists at parish dinners and functions. Along with her family, she has volunteered at The Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago – helping with children’s Christmas parties, neighborhood dinners, food pantry and clothes distributions.
