Get tree seedlings for Arbor Day
Tree Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission will be giving away tree seedlings April 29 in Market Square to celebrate Arbor Day.
All the seedlings were grown locally at Tree Pittsburgh's Heritage Nursery. Seedlings included are tulip poplar, white oak, yellow buckeye, umbrella magnolia and pawpaw. Tree Pittsburgh has a goal of planting 10,000 trees in 2016, in honor of its 10th anniversary.
The giveaway will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will last until 2 p.m. or whenever the seedlings run out.
Pennsylvania celebrates Arbor Day, which is dedicated to tree planting, annually on the last Friday of April.
Tribune-Review home and garden editor Doug Oster will blog from Switzerland starting this weekend. Oster is traveling to the cities of Bern, Zermett and Lucerne. He'll be exploring and photographing the gardens of each city.
