Flower child: FTD award helps Reinbeck florist with move to town landmark

REINBECK A 75-word essay proved fertile ground for Katie Lubbert to turn her simple flower shop into a destination in downtown Reinbeck. Lubbert recently was named winner of FTD’s Makeover Contest, a national award that goes to one FTD florist in the U.S. each year and brings a shop redesign worth $10,000. In Lubbert’s case, the prize facilitated a move across the street to a downtown landmark at 413 Main St. which had served for many years as a local dining and dessert spa called The Fountain on Main. Wildflower Florist & Coffee House will hold its grand opening Friday and Saturday. Getting to that point required a lot of work. Indeed, the shop required some updating and a wholesale reinvention that plucked elements of the old and planted them side by side inside the new business. Chicago-based FTD sent a decorating specialist and consultant, Keith White, to Reinbeck for a week to lead the renovation work.
