IOWA CITY — Wanda M. Buck, 83, of Iowa City, formerly of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville, Iowa.
Private family services have been held with burial at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice or Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
Wanda Mae Smith was born June 2, 1932, in Santa Rosa, Mo., the daughter of Dolpha and Cova (Searcy) Smith. She married Wayne Buck on July 17, 1948, in Dubuque. The couple raised their family and resided in Maquoketa for many years before moving to Iowa City in 1972. Wanda enjoyed her family; she loved caring for her husband and children and, later, nothing meant more to her than being Grandma! Attending country music concerts was a favorite pastime. She also enjoyed life in the fast lane a bit, especially when it came to drag racing and cheering on her favorite driver, John Force.

Dec 15, 2015Rose Bowl becomes hottest ticket in town
Iowans who simply will not make it to Pasadena.
But some of the roses are coming here. Officials with Hy-Vee floral departments in Iowa City, Coralville and Cedar Rapids teamed up this week to put roses on display.
On Monday, the Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center was decorated in more than 4,000 yellow roses — close to 200 arrangements — to celebrate Iowa’s return to the Rose Bowl.
“The football complex will be adorned with 4,000 yellow roses to get everybody psyched for a trip we haven’t taken in 25 years,” said Laurel Hallopeter, with Iowa City’s First Avenue Hy-Vee floral department.
