Gertrude Ann Jones Richardson
Joy), of Auburn, Gordon B. Richardson (Patricia), of Auburn, Alabama, Cynthia J. Richardson, of Auburn, Howard A. Richardson (Cynthia A.), of Warner Robins, Ga.; and daughter-in-law, Grace K. Richardson. She is survived by a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Gertrude's greatest accomplishment was raising her family, but it didn't stop there. She, along with her daughter-in-law Joy, worked the Preschool at Booker T. Washington Community Center on Chapman Avenue in Auburn. She was affectionately called Aunt Gerty. Today she is remembered by her many former students. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that if you choose, make a donation to Booker T. Washington Community Center or any organization in her name.
Gertrude was a lifelong member of Thompson Memorial AME Zion Church. She participated in many activities including Seward Elementary School PTA (on Swift Street), the Elks Club and the Busy Bees.
Join the family as we celebrate her life and family legacy at Thompson Memorial AME Zion Church on Franklin Street, for the wake and Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, in Auburn.

He left college to join the U.S. Air Force on June 26, 1948. He served in the 37th Communication Squadron in Okinawa, Japan; Warner Robins Air Force Base, Ga.; and Anchorage, Alaska. He ended his military career as a technical sergeant, serving as a cryptographic specialist with the highest security clearance at the Pentagon.
Eddie married Marion Suits on Sept. 23, 1950, in Macon, Ga. After her death, he married Lillian Brock on Dec. 12, 1964, in San Diego. He married Sheila (Van Orsdol) Dennis on Dec. 21, 1977, in Pasadena, Calif.
After his military service, Eddie began a career in electronics. He retired at 74 as the supervisor of broadcast engineers at Los Angeles City College in Los Angeles. Always keeping busy, after retirement, he learned to be a locksmith and worked part time for the Lake Kiowa Security Department.
He loved sports and played slow-pitch softball into his 70s. He was known for his high, arching but accurate, moon ball that few batters could hit.
Eddie was a man of faith. He was baptized at age 17 and devotedly attended church throughout his life. At his death, he was a member of Hope Community Fellowship Church in The Colony, Texas.
In his 70s, he made trips with groups from his church to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. At 85, he joined other church members on a mission trip to Mexico to distribute gifts to disadvantaged children. He was a Meals on Wheels and Home Hospice volunteer and a member of the Gainesville Optimist Club. He was also a ham operator and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteer.
