Bruce and Mattie Lou Hinely. She was valedictorian of Effingham Academy Class of 1949, and received a two year business certificate from GSCW in Milledgeville, Ga. She married Arthur Exley in 1952 in First Baptist Church of Springfield. Ellen worked in several secretarial positions in Chatham and Effingham Counties prior to the birth of her children. She was a homemaker until the children were in middle school, then worked several years for the Effingham County Board of Education. Ellen became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Ellen served as a teacher for Sunday school and other activities. For as long as Ellen was able she was active with the LCW and served on various committees. Ellen was a member of Springfield Chapter of the Effingham County Farm Bureau along with Arthur. Ellen was predeceased by her parents and infant brother. We would like to thank her caregiver Monica Rahn, Effingham Hospital and staff, and Ogeechee Area Hospice and staff. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Arthur; daughter, Susan Exley; son, David and his wife Cynthia Exley; grandson, Brett Exley; and several cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery. Remembrances can be made to Ogeech... (Savannah Morning News)

Nancy Lee Sizemore Dittmar

MILLEDGEVILLE – Nancy Lee Dittmar, 80, of Milledgeville, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society in Mount Carroll. Nancy was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Normal, the daughter of Pete and Mary Etta (Hixson) Sizemore. She attended Metcalf Elementary School and graduated from University High School and Illinois State University, receiving both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees in education. Nancy taught for 38 years, with 1 year in Leroy, and the remaining 37 years with the Chadwick-Milledgeville School District, where she also was a mentor. She married Glen C. Dittmar on June 17, 1962, in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1993. Nancy was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milledgeville, Milledgeville Women’s Club, and Oakville Country Club. She served on the Carroll County Fair Board, Trinity Lutheran Church Council, and Lee-Carroll-Ogle CASA Board of Directors, and was supportive of Timberlake Playhouse. Golf, reading, crafts, ... Guscio: Son of Blufftonian helps the movies flower and grow green

Susan Reynolds and Michael Reynolds. Joey spent his first two years in college enrolled in an honors program at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga. He then transferred to Charleston Southern University where he will graduate as a 2nd Lieutenant this month. Joey will celebrate this wonderful event on a cruise to the Honduras , Belize and Cozumel. After the holidays he is off to Fort Sill , Okla., for officer training. I know all of his family is very proud of him and we wish him well . THAT NEW ORLEANS SOUND I love jazz and if you have ever been to New Orleans, you have heard the best of it. At the end of the Spanish American War in 1898, the troops were sent home and New Orleans is where many landed. There was no use at the time for instruments that had been used in bands so they were discarded. So began the big band jazz era in that city. People picked up instruments and taught themselves how to play. The tunes they came up with was the start of some fabulous music. 'GOOD LUCK, JEFF' Jeff Fulgham has resigned as executive director of the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society. He brought many new members to the society and helped re-energize the group. He is now working on a book about Henry Woodward the first English settler in South Carolina. We should all thank him for his love of Bluffton and his caring about our town. Good luck Jeff.
