Garden clubs release flower show winners

Four Seasons” Oct. 10 in the art hall at the Fairfield County Fair. The Carroll Community Garden Club was the host for the Basil, Bremen, Faithful Gardeners, Lithopolis and Pickerington garden clubs. These clubs are members of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. Jean Moore, of Minford and an OAGC accredited flower show judge, judged the show. The show included education exhibits by the host club. Hoffman’s Flowers of Baltimore displayed a commercial exhibit. Mary Warga of the Faithful Gardeners Garden Club won the artistic best of show for her summer: Fourth of July, illuminating design. Nancy Collins of the Pickerington Garden Club won the judge’s award of distinction for her spring: A Day in the Garden abstract design using garden tools. Judy Karcher of the Rambling Designers Garden Club won miniature best of show for her fall traditional design. The horticulture best of show was a dahlia grown by Jeff Green of Lancaster. The junior’s best of show was the fall picture frame of dried items by Hannah Lecrone of Mystical Junior Gardeners Garden Club, Bremen. Pantelis Ftergiotis, a 17-year-old student at Penn High School, joined five other family members at at a table at the cafe. “He’s a very strict conservative and I truly like that,” Ftergiotis said. As soon as Cruz headed outside, the capacity crowd dispersed, leaving many tables to be cleaned up and a sense of satisfaction for the restaurant owners. “It was great for business, but our customers more than anything were happier to have them in the community,” said John Limberopoulos, who co-owns the family restaurant with his brother, George. He said he was contacted by the Cruz campaign staff Saturday night. “This was an opportunity for us to do something for our customers,” he said. “We were offered the opportunity and we had to jump on it.” ... Men's/Women's Basketball Charity game: South Suburban's men's and women's basketball teams will host a Coaches vs. Cancer Day and Community Day on Saturday at the school, 15800 S. State St., South Holland. The women's team plays Kankakee at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game against Indiana Elite Academy at 3 p.m. All proceeds for the games and raffles will go to the American Cancer Society, which also will be accepting donations during the games. High school wrestling: Plymouth rocks its ways to title

Plymouth Sectional championship Saturday at Plymouth. Plymouth racked up 219 1/2 points, easily outpacing runner-up Culver Military's 155 1/2, and Bremen's third-place 155. The Rockies finished with four weight-class champions and a pair of runners-up and will send 11 wrestlers to next Saturday's regional at Rochester. The top four places in each weight class advance to the regional round. Plymouth junior Micah Calhoun improved to 30-3 and captured the title at 152 pounds with a sudden-victory 4-2 win over Bremen's Alex Bollenbacher. Freshman Fernando Rebollo (126) and sophomore Nate LaFree (195) were the other Plymouth champions, with senior Bodie Neidig (145) and junior Colten Schuler (170) finishing as runners-up. Bremen had two sectional title winners. Senior Mitchell Moore, who picked up a 13-5 major decision over Schulter at 170 pounds, and junior Tyler Moser, a 4-2 overtime winner over Warsaw's Andrew Brock at 220. CMA freshman Spencer Penrose grabbed a 7-3 decision over Gustavo Cartajena of Warsaw at 106 for a sectional title and was joined by his sophomore teammate Adam Davis, who won a 5-0 contest with Triton's Malachi Green to claim the 120-pound title.
