'Ah, life was exciting in the seventies'

PROVIDED PHOTO The Jupiter-Tequesta-Juno Beach Chamber of Commerce , under the direction of executive director Alice Klimas, had a wonderful post card display in its office, including the Juno Ranch. I got to thinking about Valentine's Day celebrations back in the 1970s. And while looking up some old photos, a flood of memories invaded my thinking space. The first time I ever even heard the word "chateaubriand" was about 1975, I recall. It was the featured "Valentines Evening dinner" at the old Juno Ranch – now Jupiter Reef. of our first meeting Back then ... my husband and I were well-acquainted with the Juno Ranch, as it was the site of our first meeting for the quirky musical, "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch." I had been a member of the community theater group for several years, but this was Paul's first venture. He had been cast as the "balladeer" in the show. The Coastal Players were in existence more than 25 years, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Susan Emley. When I first joined, productions were presented at Sal Haven (Jonathan's Landing). Sal Haven had been built to house retired upholsters from New York. When the land was sold for Jonathan's Landing and the Jupiter Medical Center, the aging population was moved to Riverbend. Junior Vet Lab The Children's Research Station at Loggerhead Marinelife Center – 14200 U.S. 1, Juno Beach – exercises science skills in children through an experiential lab every Wednesday and Friday at 3:30 p.m., And every Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 and 2 p.m. Junior Veterinary Lab accommodates up to 10 children in a 30-minute program, taking participants from sea turtle rescue to release. The children come to the aid of a green sea turtle replica, and Dr. Logger teaches the group about common injuries and illnesses that affect these endangered animals. No pre-registration is required, guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to register, as space is limited. This event is free and is geared toward ages 5 and up.
