40 years of flowers for the Peoria area

Gregg Florist has provided floral arrangements and decorations to the area since 1953, but has been under owner Dan Callahan’s management since 1978.“We purchased it from a family that had started the business about 10 years before, and their last name was Gregg. It was a simple, easy name to pronounce, we thought why not just keep it simple and leave it that way,” Callahan said. “That was 40 years ago next month. [On] St. Patrick’s day, it’ll be 40 years.”The Peoria-native pursued his college degree in Champaign before coming back to his roots to buy the shop.“I grew up right in the neighborhood of the store here. I went to [University of Illinois], and my goal was to get a master’s in architecture, but I ended up stopping at the end of having my bachelor’s and decided that this was the career I wanted,” Callahan said.Since buying the business in 1978, Callahan said he’s seen a myriad of changes occur in Peoria and the shop itself.“It has been a revolution in every way, shape and form,” Callahan said. “[When we opened], we had very few gift items; the silk flowers we had in and artificial things were just light years more primitive and lower end than what we do now. [Now], we have our flowers come weekly fr... (The Scout)

Rose Society holds two months of pruning workshops

Buy Photo Marge Callahan of Spreckels prunes roses at the display garden, Santa Cruz Fairgrounds(Photo: Joe Truskot/The Salinas Californian)Buy Photo Whether you have one or one hundred roses, you still need to get out there and prune. The comments below refer to hybrid tea, floribundas, miniatures, large flower climbers, and any other bushes which bloom all season long. This is not the time to prune one time bloomers such as Cecile Bruner. Wait until after those roses have completed their summer bloom cycle to prune them back. Roses growing along the Central Coast never truly go dormant – not like they would in parts of the country where daytime high temperatures never get above freezing. Therefore, we have to coax them to take a rest from continual flower production. This process begins in the fall, actually. Don’t feed your roses anything – chemical or organic – after September. As daylight dim... (The Salinas Californian)

D&C

Dennis and Callahan and it's a situation where vehicles now working with legal authorities to see they can figure out who did it. Who's responsible and take action against that person are there are a her with John Dennis I am going to hit a major speech probably Monday of next week. And we're going to be discussing all of the things that have taken place with the clintons I think you can find it very informative. Harry Callahan I regret those comments that he made claiming a person can't do the job because of their races sort of like textbook definition of a racist comments. It's actually unacceptable if you say something that's wrong I think the mature and responsible thing is acknowledging. And Kirk men ahead. I will never ever back down and our country will never ever back down on Sports Radio WEEI. Our number three Dennis and Callahan. Steve Buckley in Berkman and 6177797937. Friday. Is going to be fascinating. To obliteration Friday's funeral fascinating. With Mohamed Al legal in a seven day...
