Sonya M. Ambrose

Ukrainian folk-dancer. She will be remembered for her love of music, fine gourmet cooking and elegant gardening at her beloved South Bethany beach house, and as her husband's faithful traveling, boating and fishing companion. In addition to her parents, Ambrose was preceded in death by her brothers Tom and Ted, and her sisters, Ann, Olaine, Mary and Evelyn. Ambrose is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Ambrose, of Bethany Beach, Del.; a brother, Basil Macknik of Wilmington, Del.; three nephews, Bob Halstead, Ed Gsell and Mike Marine; a niece, Suzanne Halstead Hoffmann; and three great-nephews, John E. Hoffmann, Tristan Hoffmann and Ryan Gsell. A funeral service was to be held Aug. 14, 2018, officiated by the Rev. Bruce Miller at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del., with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del. Ambrose of South Bethany, Del., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. She was born in Mahanoy, Pa., the youngest daughter among the eight children of the late Very Rev. Basil J. Macknik and Mary (Tokay) Macknik. Ambrose retired from work as an executive secretary at Hercules. She was a loving aunt who always found time for her nieces and nephews when they sought her out, which was often. She was known for her sharp-witted sense of humor and thoughtful, practical advice. Ambrose was always fun to be around and hosted many wonderful parties for family and friends. In her youth, she was a beautiful and talented Ukrainian folk-dancer. James 'Jim' Gallant, community volunteer

James “Jim” Harry Gallant, 77, of Bethany Beach, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at his home. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., April 14, 1938, son of the late Albert Robert and Gladys Ann (Wersh) Gallant. Jim was a graduate of Wichita State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in communications. Jim retired as the operations manager for WMAL radio station in Washington, D.C. After moving to Delaware, Jim poured his life into volunteer work. He was a member of the American Red Cross, where he traveled to support those devastated by Katrina and the wildfires in California. He was lead sponsor of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Washington, D.C. Purple Stride, sat on the Children’s Beach House board of directors in Lewes, served with the Bethany Beach Chamber of Commerce and was the past president of the Bethany Lakes HOA. He was also a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, and was involved with the Republican Party locally. Jim’s true love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his c...
