It almost felt normal, and that was nice. There was no social pressure. We could tour the museum at our own pace, and they made it really easy to navigate,” Rosenthal said. Now, with a fresh pop-up shop in Larimer Square, she’s sharing her unconventional arrangements and funky flair for home decor at the sweet-scented Buckley House of Flowers. Customers can drop in for a drink and a chat while they wait for their bouquet, or sign up for weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly floral creations that change with the season. They decided to elope over the weekend. She called, I answered the phone, and we made a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers that really reflected her and her event. She was saying, “Oh, my fiance doesn’t want to wear a boutonniere,” and I said, “What about this? What if we made it really simple with wildflowers and wrapped it in raffia?” She said, “Yeah, yeah! OK! That’s it!” That feeling of catching fire with someone who is so excited about something. It makes it worth it being there on a Saturday morning when all my sons are out hiking and doing fun things. It’s wonderful to see that come alive.ADN: What’s one thing you want the community to know?KA: We’re well-equipped to help because we listen and we care. We’ll take the time to sit down with someone and go over what they need and whether that’s something super grand for a beautiful party or something intimate just to say “I’m sorry” between friends. Deryn Davidson: Award for demonstration garden is a bright spot during tough times - The Daily Camera

Plant Select Showcase Garden Award, it felt extra-sweet. The Plant Select program is a collaboration between Colorado State University, Denver Botanic Gardens and professional horticulturists. Their goal is to “create smart plant choices for a new American Landscape inspired by the Rocky Mountain Region.” The plants are trialed and chosen based on eight attributes: flourishing with less water, habitat-friendly, tough and resilient in challenging climates, one of a kind/unique, resist disease and insects, long-lasting beauty, and noninvasive. These are all important qualities in plants that we invite into our spaces. Our demonstration garden at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont is one of several such gardens across the state. You can glean a good amount of information from plant tags and online research, but it is helpful to see with your own eyes how plants perform after establishment or to see plant combinations growing side by side. Many demonstration gardens are in public areas and therefore always open to visitors. DENVER — Painting has always been a sanctuary for Lauren Anderson. It's a colorful escape when life gets too dark. And now, she's sharing her gift to help others.Anderson was volunteering for UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital when she discovered many patients who were sent flowers couldn't keep them in their rooms."It just made me really sad to think if I were in the hospital and somebody I loved and who loved me sent me something like that and I couldn’t enjoy it, how upsetting that would be," she said.Then she thought of something — maybe there was a way for those patients to enjoy those creations. So she went to volunteer coordinator Jenny Ricklefs with an idea."She’s an artist and she thought that she could potentially paint those flower arrangements and give the painting to the patient because they couldn’t have the flowers," Ricklefs said.
