Girl Scouts plant memorial garden for fallen deputies - The Denver Channel

They chose the Highlands Ranch substation partly because Parrish was killed in Highlands Ranch."There's only (a memorial) in Castle Rock, so we wanted to put one that was closer to the families that they could visit," said Abby Guy, a Cadette Scout.Guy and her fellow scouts Juliana Pepper and Sarah Gross planted perennial flowers, so they'll return every year. The memorial includes a plaque with the three deputies' names, and a concrete block where the sheriff's office plans to eventually erect a permanent monument. There are also small markers with the names of individuals and businesses that donated money, time and supplies to the project.

Florists sow kindness through 'Petal it Forward' event

This is the first time Banda’s Bouquets in Longview and The Flower Pot in Castle Rock have participated in a national “Petal it Forward” event, which was started by the Society of American Florists. While a distributor gave Allen a discount, she still spent a few hundred dollars on the event. Allen loaded buckets of yellow, white, purple and maroon flowers onto a cart she pushed around Commerce Avenue, stopping random strangers in stores or on the street. Greenwood has always exhibited civic pride and unity in their ongoing efforts to improve the area," Kelly McWhorter, executive director of the Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau, said in a press release. "We are blessed with beneficial partnerships and a strong teamwork attitude to make things happen here." The festival, which takes every June, is heading into its 50th year. Organizers announced in September that the 2016 event generated $3.3 million in revenue and drew 85,031 people. Angelle LaBorde, CEO of the Greenwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Festival of Flowers, traveled to Arroyo Grande, California with McWhorter to accept the award. "Through the development of the community profile in preparation for our inaugural year, we were educated and enlightened on the breadth and scope of our community volunteerism efforts in Greenwood," LaBorde said.
