Eric took a trip to Colorado in 2011, fell in love with the area and packed his car arriving in Breckenridge on December 31, 2011 knowing no one. He loved Colorado and the year-round recreation it offered including snowboarding, ice fishing, hiking, biking, dirt biking and fishing. He drove back and forth to NH many times with friends joining him for the long road trip but always returning to Colorado where he felt most at peace.Support Local JournalismDonate Eric had many good friends and he considered the Cormier family his second family, Ron and Ryan his brothers. As so eloquently written by Ryan “When growing up, everyone gets to decide who their friends are going to be. I keep wondering how our garden back in Breckenridge is doing.Alan and I are away for a few weeks in Maine. Before we left Breckenridge, we tidied up everything inside and out — cleaning and vacuuming the house, mowing the lawn, weeding the flowerbeds. Nanz, Kraft to hand out flowers to passersby

Wednesday. The flowers will be given away from 8 to 11 a.m. in front of the Nanz and Kraft store at 141 Breckenridge Lane in St. Matthews. A release said that the flower giveaway is intended "to brighten the day" of the recipients under a "petal it forward" program. Passersby will receive two flowers – one to keep and one to share, the release said. The program, developed by the Society of American Florists, is meant to spread positivity and highlight the emotional benefits of receiving flowers, the release said. Summit County Garden Tour offers a feast of flowers

Saturday, July 23 to get Pinterest-like ideas from some of the best looking gardens in the county. This year’s tour features seven Breckenridge gardens that grow and flourish between 9,000 and 10,000 feet in elevation. The self-guided tour showcases a collaboration of designs from homeowners to professional gardens created by 70 members of the garden club. Registration is from 8:30-10:45 a.m. on Saturday morning and will include a continental breakfast of beverages and baked goods made by garden club members. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Garden Center or on Eventbrite and tickets can also be exchanged for self-guided tour books. Registration will also include watercolor paintings created by garden club members. Be sure to arrive early as tickets will not be available to be exchanged after 11 a.m. A VARIETY OF BLOOMS Alpine gardens are not easy, but these gardeners have done amazing things to keep the summer blooming in the mountains. The self-guided tour consists of seven gardens that are available to view at your own pace. Each garden will have a story and directions to the next stop on the tour. Sculpting Frigid Works of Art

There was little sleep and a lot of risk at this year's International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge.  At 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26 in Breckenridge, the 26th International Snow Sculpture Championships began with the traditional cannon blast. In a flurry of saws, ice chippers, and trowels, 16 teams from all over the world went to work on their respective 24-ton block of snow. Each four-person team had 65 hours to turn a 12-foot tall ice rectangle into a work of art. As of Friday night, the majority of teams were still carving. Some, like Team Great Britain, were adding final details—meticulously chiseling scales onto the dragon featured in their sculpture “Tale of Two Dragons.” Others, like Team Loveland Colorado, were still forming the main body of their piece, scraping the snow to bring forth the ears of an enormous elephant head in “Bolting from Extinction."  The members of Team France, who arrived late do to a mechanical issue with their flight, were worried that they might not make the cut-off time of 10 a.m. the following morning.
