Wilson woman dies after clothes catch fire while cooking
'Loved to give'
An Easton native, Patterson graduated from Easton Area High School in 1965. She lived in Wilson Borough for about 20 years.
Following high school, she worked for decades at two factories, Lifetime Doors and Country Miss, both in Forks Township. She was a hard worker who never had a lot of money but still found a way to give presents to family members, Steven Parkansky said.
"She loved to give," he said. "That was something she truly enjoyed doing."
Patterson was modest, hated to be photographed and would rather have the focus on someone else, Parkansky said. In honor of that, the family didn't include a photo with her obituary.
"She worried endlessly about everyone else," Parkansky said. "If one of us weren't feeling well, she knew about it."
The staff at his mother's nursing facility treated Patterson like family, he said. The same people reached out to him in sorrow since his aunt's passing.
"It just demonstrates how much of an impact she had on people she didn't know," Parkansky said.
Patterson was a sports fan who loved watching on TV. She rooted for the Andretti family in auto racing, the San Francisco 49ers, Tiger Woods in golf and several basketball teams.
"She watched it all," Parkansky said. "She would walk into a room and that would be the first thing she would ask, 'Who's winning?'"

Loss in the neighborhood
Neighbors recalled Patterson fondly, too.
Jackie Griesmeyer, who lives a few homes down, remembered a bad snowstorm a few years back. Patterson showed up at her door to help her dig out, she said.
Griesmeyer said she had just seen Patterson earlier during the weekend storm trying to clear snow.
Parkansky said he found out about the fire Saturday from a neighbor. Responding poli... (lehighvalleylive.com)

All of humanity's favorite things — by which we mean flowers, marching bands, war documentaries and national parks — meet in grand fashion at the 127th Rose Parade. To honor the centennial of the national park system, the Tournament of Roses' theme this year is "Find Your Adventure" — and what better place to start the adventure finding than the swarmed streets of Pasadena? Along with the Budweiser Clydesdales and a bunch of high school bands, there'll be the usual procession of organic floats, including a PBS SoCal float depicting the setting of popular period drama Downton Abbey. Grand marshal of the whole affair: mop-topped documentarian Ken Burns. Who says parades are for old fogies? Don't condescend to True Romance, man. It'll fuckin' kill you, man. Written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott, the early-'90s cult classic has endeared itself to a generation of genre fans via endlessly quotable dialogue and grisly violence acted out by a formidable cast: Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are the lovers/partners in crime, with everyone from Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson to James Gandolfini and Brad Pitt rounding out the ensemble. And if you've never seen the verbal showdown between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken, a trip to the Nuart's midnight screening is long overdue. Nuart Theatre, 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., West L.A.; Fri., Jan. 1, 11:59 p.m.; $11. (310) 473-8530, landmarktheatres.com. —Michael Nordine
