The teen was about to start high school in El Paso. Each of the silhouettes will be holding a star in one hand, representative of the Star on the Mountain in El Paso. The silhouettes will be displayed along the roads inside Ascarate Park lined with luminarias, from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, and Monday, Aug. 3. The luminaria pathway will include the sounds and melodies by local musicians. Each silhouette will have about 22 square feet of moss and flowers. The moss will be consistently misted for the weekend. After the anniversary events, the silhouettes will be offered to the families of the victims. The florists want to remain anonymous to focus and promote the unity of El Paso. The project is funded through two big donations totaling $5,000 from Walmart and a United Way of El Paso County private donor. Ever wonder where they get the gorgeous flowers bordering the paths at Disneyland? Landscape architect John Schoustra grows them for big landscape jobs, but he invites the public to view and/or buy some on Saturdays from April 4 through the end of June. Greenwood’s day lilies, irises, geraniums and other flowers used to be grown in the ground, organized by color. Now they’re grown in pots. “So the gophers and the weeds can’t get them,” says Schoustra, who’s proud to sell the only scented lilacs that will bloom in Southern California.Info: 8000 Balcom Canyon Road, Somis, Calif.; greenwoodgarden.comOtto & Sons Nursery

Growth in Gardening: Fall flowers - San Marcos Daily Record
Wonderful for the wildflower bed or in combination with mums.
Larkspur: Larkspurs should be planted in the fall for spring blooms. They are tough, cool season flowers with spikes from pink to purple and blue. The "Bunny Bloom" larkspur is a favorite as the center of each flower seems to have the shape of a white rabbit's head in the center.
If you have never tried bulbs before trying them this fall will bring you real pleasure come spring.

Larkspur flower shop focuses on local, sustainable arrangements - Marin Independent Journal
It’s a family affair at the Little Flower Shop in Larkspur.Sachi Kuboshima Morlock operates the small, stylish shop; her chef husband helps her on his days off and her father-in-law helps with deliveries.
Morlock, who opened the shop in May, had worked as a freelance event and wedding floral arranger in the Bay Area, Hawaii and other destinations, but when this space on Magnolia Avenue opened up, she grabbed it.
A native of Tokyo, Morlock had worked in the hospitality industry in Southeast Asia before immigrating to America and embarking upon her childhood dream of working as a florist when she was trained as wedding designer in 2011.
“Because I was trained as a wedding designer, my aesthetic is a garden-style design that uses lots of greens with airy and beautiful seasonal blooms,” she explains. “I like to see movement and texture, and I try to not pack my flowers too tight.”
Daily, she maintains local restaurant accounts, makes arrangements to deliver or for walk-in customers, and fulfills online floral orders.
