Saskatoon florists turn Junos loss to charity win - Saskatoon StarPhoenix

Thursday morning into a positive one.Quinn Brown, co-owner of Quinn and Kim’s Flowers, told The StarPhoenix he was in the middle of preparing the first delivery of floral arrangements he and his wife had prepared for the awards when word arrived that the Junos were cancelled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.An arrangement from Quinn and Kim’s Flowers in Saskatoon. Photo by Quinn and Kim's Flowers /Facebook“Just real anticlimactic to a lot of work we’d done on the back end,” he said of learning the hours of painstaking preparation would all be for nought.On top of it all, Brown said they’d agreed to provide the roughly $15,000 worth of work for the awards free of charge.“We just viewed it as advertising,” he said.With the awards cancelled, the Browns weren’t content to simply let the flowers wilt.They turned to social media, offering up their Junos arrangements for $20 apiece, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Teen Challenge Saskatchewan, a non-profit working with youth struggling with addictions.

Linda, also of Chino Valley; daughter, Loriann (Zamenick) Meader of Alaska; son, Joe Jr. and his wife, Stephanie (Barnes) of Phoenix; sons, Michael and Richard; granddaughter, Alyssa Meader and her partner, Bartol Seay, both of Alaska and granddaughter, Zarah Zamenick-Carrier and her husband, Tyler of Phoenix. He also had one precious great-granddaughter, Ameliah Seay of Alaska. Joe was a loving husband, father, and die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan! He cherished his family and enjoyed many pleasurable hours in the outdoors, hunting and camping. After retirement he was active in the community, volunteering at the Chino Valley Food Bank. Joe always made a positive impact on those around him and was loved by so many. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. A visitation and Celebration of Life will be 2-5 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Chino Valley Funeral Home at 480 W. Palomino Road in Chino Valley. Bob Shane, last original member of the Kingston Trio, dies at 85 - Los Angeles Times

Kingston Trio and the lead singer on its million-selling ballad “Tom Dooley” and many other hits, has died in hospice care in Phoenix.Shane, who died Sunday, was 85. Mike Marvin, a cousin and surrogate son of fellow Kingston Trio founder Nick Reynolds, confirmed the death but did not immediately know the cause.Shane, Reynolds and Dave Guard were performers in the San Francisco club circuit in the 1950s and broke through nationally in 1958 with their eponymous debut album, which featured “Tom Dooley,” an old standard inspired by a Confederate veteran’s conviction for murder. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts, won a Grammy for best country and western song (no folk category existed) and helped launch the so-called folk revival, with other artists including Joan Baez; Peter, Paul and Mary; and, eventually, Bob Dylan.Clean-cut and amiable, they were criticized by some folk artists for being too slick and for avoiding political statements. But the Kingston Trio was one of the country’s top acts over the next few years.
