Former Kirkland deputy mayor Doreen Marchione dies at 80 - Kirkland Reporter

Hopelink assisted. In the city release, Hopelink CEO Lauren Thomas said Marchione was instrumental in developing Hopelink’s Avondale Park housing facility. It bears her name today, leaving a legacy that “holds local families in her arms,” Thomas said. “She was so much more than a great leader. Doreen was a mentor, and a fierce advocate for those in need; a caring, passionate woman who wore her heart on her sleeve and lived her commitment to our community every single day,” Thomas said in the release. “She will be deeply missed, and her passion will be carried forward through the lives of her family, friends, and Hopelink family.” Marchione also served on multiple regional boards and committees, including 15 years on the Seattle University College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Council, State Transportation Improvement Board, Commissioner of King County Housing Authority, president of the Washington State Association of Community Agencies, and board member of the Kirkland Performance Center. “Doreen was a true force of nature in our region,” said Joan McBride, former Washington state representative for the 48th Legislative District, in the release. “Befriending and mentoring countless women on the Eastside, Doreen set the example of collegiality and dignity that exemplifies the best in an elected official. May her legacy of commitment to the community, zeal for justice, and dedication to the precepts of good government live on.” Marchione is mother to current Redmond Mayor John Marchione. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland. Friends are invited to view photos and share memories in the family’s online guest book at www.flintofts.com. Police looking for suspect who used flowers to gain access to retirement facility

Investigators say the burglar hit The Brightview Avondale facility Friday. Four separate residents were robbed and the suspect got away with about $100,000 in valuables."When they got down there they started talking to residents of the facility and they found out that four different rooms had been burglarized," said Major William Davis of the Harford County Sheriff's Office.Video from the facility released by the sheriff's office shows the suspect casually walking in carrying flowers, but this was no petty theft."Someone came in from outside and went inside and stole property to the tune of about $87,000-$100,000," Davis said. Those that run the facility say they have state of the art security and this is not something that happens on their property.  Investigators think the man in the video may have used the flowers as a cover to gain access."He walks into the facility we believe that it's possibly a rouse that people would think that he belonged and that he was going to visit somebody, carrying flowers to take to his loved one," said Davis. As detectives search for their victim, they're urg... Glendale family of slain Xbox teen 'absolutely devastated'

Navarro, who thought he had arranged to sell an Xbox gaming console through an online service, was shot in the back Sunday, and an Avondale man has been arrested in connection with his death. Among other relatives, Navarro leaves behind a younger sister, a little girl who hasn’t quite grasped that “her hero” is gone, Viniegra said. He was the man in the family, always looking out for his loved ones. Show Thumbnails Show Captions Last SlideNext Slide He was very respectful and never got into trouble, Viniegra said. Most of Navarro's time was spent playing video games, she said, letting out a small laugh. “I would say, ‘Mijo, you’re going to kill your brain cells.’" But she said Navarro was a smart kid, and his gaming talent was obvious.
