Yep, those are giant bouquets of flowers popping up in public trash cans in the Triangle - WRAL.com

By Sarah Lindenfeld Hall, Go Ask Mom editorNope ... your eyes aren't deceiving you. That was a giant flower bouquet springing up from a public trash can in Chapel Hill. The N.C. Museum of Art is at it again with its trash can bouquets to promote its fifth annual Art in Bloom, which runs March 21 to March 24. Last year, the museum placed five giant bouquets around downtown Raleigh to promote the event. This year, they've more than tripled the number to 17 and expanded to across the Triangle. Two bouquets have already popped up at Chapel Hill’s Peace and Justice Plaza and the Chapel Hill Public Library, with three more Franklin Street locations planned through Sunday, March 10, according to a news release. The Town of Chapel Hill helped coordinate locations ahead of the town’s Second Friday Art Walk and Saturday’s UNC–Chapel Hill vs. Duke University basketball rematch in Chapel Hill. Chapel Hill floral designer Amy J. Wurster of Knots 'N Such designed each of the bouquets. Five Raleigh loc...

In Bloom: What to know before you go to Raleigh's Dix Park sunflower field

By Sarah Lindenfeld Hall, Go Ask Mom editorRaleigh, N.C. - There are still plenty of flowers left to bloom, but Raleigh's five acres of sunflowers at Dix Park are a sight to behold at the moment. On Tuesday morning, hundreds of the flowers were in bloom. Their bright yellow petals soaked up the sun. As WRAL reported earlier, Dix Park is the new location for the city's popular sunflower field. For a few years, they had taken over a field next to the greenway along Old Baucom Road in southeast Raleigh. But, eventually, the sunflowers drew hundreds - even thousands - to the rural stretch for selfies, family pictures and more than a few Instagram and Facebook posts. But the problem was this: It wasn't originally intended to become a photo opp. The fields served as an application site for biosolids from the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility, one of the city's wastewater treatment plant. Biosolids, a stabilized sludge, are a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process and used as fertiliz...

OPRF grad Dallis Flowers excels as two-sport athlete at Robert Morris

His first official start came in the eighth game of the year, a home contest against Lindenwood-Belleville on Oct. 29. He had four tackles and a pass breakup against St. Xavier the week after, and followed that up with three tackles and an interception in a win against St. Ambrose on Nov. 12. The victory clinched the Eagles' first Mid-State Football Association Midwest League title.Flowers has every desire to play both sports through his senior year. The physicality of football helps on the court, and basketball's skilled athleticism assists on the gridiron. It's a tremendous undertaking for a dynamic athlete so new to the program, but one whose impact is already clear."(Playing football) adds to hid confidence, adds to his toughness," Bruehl said. "He's not going to back down. He's got an attitude, and he's never afraid of anyone or the moment."He's got heart. Bottom line."Rich Mayor is a freelance reporter for Pioneer Press.Twitter @Pioneer_Press... (Chicago Tribune)
