LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington florist who's been in business since 1954 is ready for the biggest day on her calendar, Valentine's Day.
"Well, 66 this is my 66th Valentine working at the flower shop," Carol Mitchell said. (WKYT)
Employees at Carol Lynn Originals and Events worked hard to get those orders out. Meanwhile, the delivery driver mapped out the most efficient route on the busiest day for this flower shop.
They've been there done that on this day of love, but there's one woman that has the flower power to push through.

Relentless Rains A Drag On Local Garden Centers - LEX18 Lexington KY News
LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — June is usually an ideal month for planting, but the owner of a local garden center says that the consistent rain in the last week has not been good for business.
“It has been difficult. The rain chases off the retail customer. They don’t want to be out in the rain,” said Chris Redmond, owner of Redmond’s Garden Center in Lexington.
When it comes to flowers and other potted plants, heavy downpours weigh them down and can cause them to droop. Blooming flowers such as roses are losing petals. The consistent rain is also affecting the soil.
“We have a lot of clay soil here. You need to mend the soil and with the heavy, heavy rains like that, plants can be sitting in puddles and if they don’t have enough drainage, they could rot,” said Redmond.
That can lead to having to get rid of plants.
Redmond’s also does landscaping, but Wednesday was the first time this week that workers were able to get out, taking advantage of the break before the rain came back.

Durgin-Park, a sassy classic, at 192. In lieu of flowers, leave a bigger tip - The Boston Globe
Many customers came for a last hurrah. Some hadn't visited in decades but wanted to pay their respects.Bob Gulick headed in from Lexington to relive his days as a Harvard undergrad."Back then, there was still sawdust on the floors here," he said, grinning. He planned to order his favorite: fish cakes, baked beans, and Indian pudding.
Eddie and Gineen Rhodes traveled down from Peabody. Eddie used to eat here while in mortician school. (Now he works in financial planning.)"This is my favorite restaurant on the planet," he said. "My grandfather took me here when I was 6 years old for prime rib. I've been coming since 1956. I've been here twice this week."Customers were selected one by one to ascend the stairs to the dining room, which offered its own kind of theater.

Lexington police spread holiday cheer during 'Shop with a Cop' - WKYT
LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) Saturday Lexington police headed to Meijer on Reynolds Road to assist kids with holiday shopping.
"It's all through donations that we can have this wonderful interaction and this great experience with these kids and be able to give back," said Sgt. Jeremiah Davis.
The annual 'Shop with a Cop' event paired police with underprivileged children whose Christmas may not have been so bright.
"You can just look around and see the smiles," said Davis.
Over 200 children each received a $150 Meijer gift card to buy presents for themselves and their families.
The Bledsoe brothers, ages 7 and 8, told WKYT they bought toys, and used some of their money to purchase flowers and Yankee candles for their mom.
"Typically we encounter people on...
