Dec 8, 2016Parker: New flower shop opens with a Fleurish in Parkdale
Fairmont hotels in Banff and Lake Louise and into the B.C. Interior.
While visiting one of her wholesalers, Jaime often dropped into the Lazy Loaf and Kettle in Parkdale and recently spotted a for-lease sign across the street.
The space, next door to the newly opened Doodle Dog, is perfect for the second location of Fleurish. A single storey, rustic exterior with a spacious deck at the entrance to the shop, customers are welcomed in over a plank floor into a spacious floral boutique.
Apart from new lighting and the installation of a large cooler, little had to be done before the already busy shop could open.
Jo Capco-Wong, a floral designer for more than 15 years, manages the new location, where Jaime spends much of her time getting to know clients and organizing deliveries. Mondays its flowers from South America and Holland; Tuesdays and Wednesdays are when orders from B.C arrive. More flowers arrive from Holland on Thursday and Fridays its deliveries from Calgary wholesalers.
While Fleurish is first a flower shop, it also stocks local ceramics, jewelry, lotions and pillows and scarves designed by a local artist.
A big feature of Fleurish is its workshops, and since opening in Parkdale it has enjoyed full classes teaching how to make Christmas wreaths, outdoor baskets and containers for the front step. It’s interesting to hear from Jaime that there is more interest in cacti and succulents in her northwest store.
In three short years Jaime has built up a successful business staffed by an experienced team of a close group of a dozen women who just take great pleasure in designing beautiful, fresh flowers for any occasion.
