WACO, Texas (Feb. 9, 2017) — Fighting with your significant other as Valentine’s Day approaches? Consider this as Cupid aims his bow and arrow yet again.
“The most common thing that couples want from each other during a conflict is not an apology, but a willingness to give up power,” says Baylor University psychologist Keith Sanford, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology and neuroscience.
“Giving up power comes in many forms, among them giving a partner more independence, admitting faults, showing respect and being willing to compromise,” says Sanford, whose studies have been published in professional journals.
Following closely behind the desire for shared control is the wish for the partner to show more investment in the relationship in such ways as sharing intimate thoughts or feelings, listening, and sharing chores and activities, he said.
Also on the list of what couples want are more communication, more affection, apologies — and yes, less feuding over i... (Baylor University)

State could hold women's tournament games on their campuses."We don't pick teams on who can host or not," women's basketball selection committee chair Terry Gawlik said in a phone interview Monday. "That never entered into our discussion."

Oct 27, 2016Under-the-radar college football games in Week 9 that could impact playoff

The slate of Week 9 college football contests with peripheral impact on the playoff picture actually begins Thursday night with No. 25 Virginia Tech’s visit to Pittsburgh (7 p.m. ET, ESPN). It’s a must-win game to both ACC Coastal contenders who need to keep pace with idle North Carolina atop the division standings. The Hokies would win a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Tar Heels while the Panthers would not, but a second league loss for either would be all but impossible to overcome at this juncture of the season.
Also of secondary interest this weekend are a few power-five league hopefuls who must avoid traps, and a couple key contests in the group-of-five leagues hoping for a New Year’s Six bid.
