Three wines to stock up on for Thanksgiving, plus 2 more to sip on warm days

Massachusetts Avenue). Available in Maryland at Wine Bin in Ellicott City, Wells Discount Liquors in Baltimore. Available in Virginia at City Vino in Fredericksburg, Department of Beer and Wine in Alexandria, In Vino Veritas in Keswick, Unwined (Alexandria, Belleview). GREAT VALUE Left Foot Charley Old Orchard Vineyard Kerner 2016 Leelanau Peninsula, Mich., $20 Kerner is an obscure grape that resembles gruner veltliner, but perhaps with a little more body. I've had a few from northern Italy, and David Ramey makes a California kerner for his Sidebar label. This example from Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula grew on me, its flavors and aromas of white flowers, ripe peaches and apricots expanding as the wine shrugged off the refrigerator's chill. New to the Washington-area market, this may take some hunting, or you could ask your favorite retailer to order it for you. ABV: 12 percent.Distributed by Siema: Available in the District at Wagshal's Deli (Massachusetts Avenue); on the list at Maxwell Park, Momofuku CCDC. Domaine de Mus Rosé 2017 Pays d'Oc, France, $13 in 750-milliliter bottle, or $28 in three-liter box This blend of grenache and cinsault is a delicious Provencal rosé, with racy flavors of melon and herbs and a slightly tart finish. The importer has sold out of the bottles, but the wine is still available in three-liter boxes, with more on the way. Consider that a nearly 50 percent discount on four bottles. That's a steal. Keep the boxes in mind for holiday parties, from Oktoberfest through New Year's. This is fun, food-friendly, delicious wine. ABV: 12.5 percent.Imported and distributed by Kysela: Available in the District at Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits, Magruder's, Rodman's. Available in Maryland at 5 O'Clock Wines & Spirits in Owings Mills; Dawson's Liquors in Severna Park; Hunt Valley Wine, Liquor & Beer in Cockeysville; Maple Lawn Wine & Spirits in Fulton; Montgomery Plaza Liquors in Catonsville; Montpelier Liquors in Laurel; Old Farm Liquors in Frederick; Wine Bin in Ellicott City; Wine Cellars of Annapolis; Wine Source in Baltimore. Available in Virginia at Screwtop Wine Bar & Cheese Shop in Arlington, Streets Market and Unwined in Alexandria, 3 Chopt Mart and Libbie Market in Richmond, Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield. Stobi Rosé 2017 Macedonia, $13 This is an unusual wine, not just because we don't see many from Macedonia. It is a blend of the white rkatsiteli grape (native to Georgia) and the native Balkan red vranec. The mash-up is delicious, a basketful of fresh-picked berries with a squirt of citrus. ABV: 12 percent.Imported by Winebow, distributed by Winebow in the District, Country Vintner in Maryland and Virginia: Available in the District at Rodman's, Town & Country Market, U Street Wine & Beer; on the list at Ambar, Bistro Boheme, Hank's Oyster Bar (Pennsylvania Avenue), Sospeso. Available in Virginia at Dominion Wine and Beer in Falls Church, Euro Foods in Alexandria; on the list at Ambar in Arlington, Bastille, Cosmopolitan Grill, Old House Cosmopolitan and Society Fair in Alexandria. Flowers and feminism

TOTR’s stage is tiny-I call it “Plays in a Box”-but set designer Jerry Miller, who also directed and plays Rose’s husband, Frederick-did a remarkable job of opening it up and evoking the spirit of San Salvatore, whose name suggests joyful salvation. Hilsee, as Lotty, was absolutely delightful on the night I attended (Friday, June 6). Playing a woman who expects everything to turn out well and shares that optimism freely, she made us fall in love with her. In some ways, Hurley-Miller had a more difficult role; her Rose is a complex woman who is hiding secrets, and Hurley-Miller let us see into her psyche while keeping her secret from the other characters. As Lady Caroline, Lucas was terrific-and she’s only 16! She seemed much older in her role as a troubled “modern” woman (read: flapper) struggling to process a great loss in the war. The male actors gave creditable performances in roles that were basically setups for the women. I especially enjoyed Andy Hafer as Anthony Wilding, the castle’s owner, who showed up mostly to flirt with the women and provide comic relief with Costanza the cook (a very funny Natalie Valencia). When the men arrive at San Salvatore, the characters resolve their issues so that everybody can go home happy and in love. For the women, this means they have relationships with their men that are based on equality. And those who have experienced loss are able once again to smile at life. ...

After 2017 fire, Blue Iris Flowers coming back to Catonsville

More than a year after a fire destroyed her Catonsville shop, Blue Iris Flowers owner Allison Glascock will reopen a new shop on Frederick Road with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 16.“I am so excited,” Glascock said. “It’s going to feel like we’re home.”After the Feb. 6 fire last year, Glascock opened Blue Iris in a temporary shop, the former Riedel’s Flowers in Arbutus, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Glascock will continue operating out of that location until April 12, when she will close to move to the new location, according to a Blue Iris Facebook post.Blue Iris will move into the former MetroPCS space at 918 Frederick Road, about a block away from where the business was formerly located.Since the day of the fire, Glascock has said it was her goal to go back to Catonsville.“Arbutus has been great,” Glascock said. “But when you’re displaced from somewhere last minute, it’s just not the same.”“We just think it’s wonderful to have Blue Iris back,” said Teal Cary, director of the Catonsville Chamber of Commerce. “We need a Frederick Road florist.”Cary said that two years ago, the Chamber awarded Glascock...
