Joshua Tree National Park Just Got 4500 Acres Bigger, And The Flowers Are Poppin' - LAist
California, Utah and New Mexico. Death Valley National Park, which straddles eastern California and Nevada, gets 35,292 new acres under the bill.
Supporters call the legislation a rare political compromise and a victory for wildlife. "It's really, in this climate, an amazing act of bipartisanship," said Chris Clarke, California desert program manager for the National Parks Conservation Association.

"The plants are larger than usual," he said during a tour last week. "They'll flower probably for a longer period and more profusely."
The new parcels will be transferred to the park from the Bureau of Land Management and the Mojave Desert Land Trust.
VISITING THE NEW LAND (AND THE FLOWERS)
To explore one of the new sections of the park, drive up Covington Flat Road from Yucca Valley until you hit a dry riverbed (dry when the skies are blue, at least). Warning: It's a deeply rutted dirt road. You'll need clearance, so don't drive your Prius. Park and hike up the riverbed as far as you like (and bring plenty of water!).
The best wildflowers right now are at the lower elevations of the park near the Cottonwood Visitor Center. If you take the park entrance near that visitor center, off the I-10, you can also avoid the long lines that often build up at the more popular entrance outside the town of Joshua Tree.
When it comes to wildflower selfies, curb your enthusiasm, Joshua Tree spokesman George Land urged. "It's not a 'Sound of Music' moment," Land said. "Try to resist the temptation to ru... Mar 29, 2019

Bay Nature Magazine: Why Do Flowers Exist? - Bay Nature
Edgewood Park in Redwood City is a small refuge with an abundant display of native flowers, including many adapted to the park’s rocky serpentine grasslands. Among these flowers are a few serpentine endemics—plants that can only grow on serpentine soil. Henry Coe State Park south of San Jose is HUGE!! But the rangers recommend Manzanita Point Road for the best display. Hiking here anytime is great, but the chance to see the gorgeous wildflowers of spring is dessert.

Flowers to bloom in Detroit - Lowell Sun
AdvertisementBrown's deal is worth $66 million over four years with $36.75 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's a figure the Patriots never were going to match.
The Flowers situation was not quite as predictable. A fourth-round pick in 2015, Flowers missed most of his rookie season, but made massive strides in each of the past three years. He developed into a menacing two-way defensive end, equally adept at stuffing the run and terrorizing the quarterback. He wasn't a freak athlete off the edge (like a Von Miller or Khalil Mack), but Flowers was effective in a multitude of roles for the Patriots. He was capable of regularly winning one-on-one matchups against tackles, and he often bumped inside on passing downs, proving too powerful and explosive for interior linemen.
The Patriots were well aware that Flowers, 25 years old and dominating at a premium position, was in line for a huge payday when his rookie contract expired. That's what happens with young defensive ends. It's why the Patriots traded Chandler Jones before he reached free agency.
But Flowers' versatility and game-to-game consistency made him a more valuable asset than Jones, so the belief existed the Patriots might go above and beyond to keep him.
The terms of Flowers' agreement with the Lions have not yet been disclosed, but Detroit likely hit a number the Patriots were unwilling to approach. Mar 15, 2019
