New ownership for flower shop
Bunnies and Bloom and, after looking at pictures of Paradise, considering the close proximity to the wine country, Mount Shasta, and the Oregon border, the sisters decided to buy the shop.
A Bloom ‘n’ Paradise aims to give their customers one-of-a-kind arrangements. That can be a challenge in the age of the Internet.
Rose said customers see touched-up photos of a perfect arrangement online for extremely low prices and expect as much. Rose and Patchen stressed that online orders are actually created by local florists like themselves. That is how some online companies get away with claiming they are local, even though they have no real presence on the Ridge.
When an online order is placed, it is sent to local florists, such as A Bloom ‘n’ Paradise. If the storefront florists accept the order, the low price and time spent making the arrangement can leave the local florist in the red.
“We want to cut out the third party,” Rose said.
Rose, a professional florist for five years, said there’s more to flowers than generic arrangements.
“There’s artistic expression in flowers. Flowers are words,” she said. And the staff at A Bloom ‘n’ Paradise are always willing to work with those who can’t find the words they want to say (ahem, gentlemen).
“We’ll help you figure out what you are trying to say,” Rose said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
Besides, there is just something about direct contact with the customer, she said.
It’s especially evident during deliveries, Patchen said. When delivering to those who are grieving or are in pain, Patchen said she sees the comfort on their face.
“It means a lot, that someone thought of them at that moment enough to send them something,” she said.
With no changeover time, the sisters are still working on decorating the inside of the shop.
