Desert Hot Springs, known by the world as California’s “Spa City,” luxuriates in this treasure—a natural aquifer with nurturing qualities. The allure of taking the waters as a tourist attraction waned in the 1930s along with the growing popularity of beach resorts, with just a few locales such as Sycamore Mineral Springs remaining for more medicinal purposes. Today, the lure and attributes of the state’s rich legacy of bubbling underground water rich in minerals has been resurrected, and many historic hot springs destinations restored.
